20190208 M51 Galaxie

The whirlpool galaxy M51 is one of the most popular observation objects among amateur astronomers.

It is already visible with a small telescope or with good binoculars.

Also, I like to take her with my Dobson always happy to target.

With 16 inches you can easily identify the pronounced spiral arms of the main galaxy NGC 5194, thickening indicate where star formation areas concentrate.

The smaller companion galaxy NGC 5195, on the other hand, appears as a diffuse spot and seems to be connected to one of the two spiral arms of the main galaxy via a weak „bridge“.
