20191208 Japan

20191208 Oda Nobunaga grew up in the province of Owari, in the heart of Japan,
as a free-spirited and rebellious son of military magistrate Oda Nobuhide,
in the midst of the sengokujidai
(Times of Warring States).

After the death of his father in 1551,
it was up to Nobunaga to take office.

However, some family members and other nobles of the region rejected this because of its eccentric behavior.

Nobunaga spent the next few years campaigning against his own family and other local rulers.

In 1559 he finally succeeded in uniting Owari under his rule.

Only a year later, the neighboring daimyo (feudal lord) Imagawa Yoshimoto with about 25,000 soldiers
to Kyoto on –
under the pretext to want to support the much weakened Ashikaga Shogun.

Nobunaga tried to prevent this with just 3,000 men, which he finally managed by an ambush
