20181213 Black hole

A black hole is an object that creates such a strong gravity (!) in its immediate environment, within the horizon of the event, that neither matter nor information (such as light or radio signals) can leave this environment.

According to the General Theory of Relativity, a sufficiently compact mass deforms the space-time so strongly that a black hole forms.

The term was established in 1967 by John Archibald Wheeler.
